"The Anonymous People" is an important, inspirational, award-winning new documentary film about the millions of Americans in long-term recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs. This free public reception and screening provides a unique opportunity to experience a moving, motivating testimony to the presence, power and diversity of recovery.
Virtually everyone knows someone in recovery from addiction – but more often than not they do not know that the person is in recovery. While the face of addiction is familiar, the face of recovery from addiction has been hidden behind practical concerns of stigma, shame and anonymity. Now, the recovering people among us are no longer willing to remain silent and let others define them. People in recovery from addiction are lending their voices and their stories to a grassroots social justice movement that takes aim at changing the conversation from problems to solutions for America's top health problem. Public screenings of this film are shattering deeply embedded societal stereotypes and countering the stigma of addiction with the hope and reality of long-term recovery.
