Job Title: Dual:Fuel Calibration Engineer with Woodward Controls Experience
Reports to: Director of Engineering : Alternative Fuels
Purpose: Engineering firm looking to expand in Alternative and Dual Fuels market. Exciting opportunity for the right candidate to grow with a new branch of existing engineering company. Working in a team environment, responsible for completion of engine Calibrations and Engine Systems Performance Data Generation for specific models for off:highway mining trucks, locomotives and related equipment and projects.
Location: Novi, Michigan corporate headquarters, with travel to China.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Engine calibration on large diesel engines including MTU 16V4000, 16V2000, Cummins QSK60, etc. for mining applications. Generate engine calibrations (based upon Fuel Substitution Mapping) that meets the project targets for defined substitution rates and Engine Power Performance.
Familiar with Woodward Controls dual fuel engine control systems and GAP software, including MATLAB and Simulink. Engineer must be able create a closed loop solution in GAP to that optimizes engine efficiency and gas substitution rates that give precise control of air flow, fuel flow, combustion processes, exhaust flow, etc. This is an integrated systems approach.
Must be familiar with CAN network and communications protocol such as J1939, J1708 and CAN OPEN
Primarily responsible for leading the engine performance development and fuel systems calibration of the Diesel : LCNG Bi : Fuel system on the engine dynamometer as well as in:vehicle performance.
Knowledge and hands on experience with gas admission to the engine is by fumigation at the turbo air inlet. Dual:fuel fumigation technology calibration experience in an effort to optimize the system for more cost:effective operation without losing engine power, availability, and reliability.
Closed Loop Calibration of dual:fuel control systems for engine speed, load, air:fuel ratio, and fuel transfer between diesel and gas mode and back to diesel.
Work at customer sites to validate operation and performance of various electrical controlling subsystems including display systems, as well as start:up, shut:down and safety systems.
Collaborates with other engineering personnel in designs; fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and determines methods, procedures, and conditions for testing products.
Create and maintain a documentation system that tracks software and schematic releases and organizes them for utilization for both engineering and field technicians.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Engineering Degree and 5+ years calibration experience in a related position. Related industry experience may waive degree requirements for the right candidate.
Large Engine Control Module (LECM) : GAP Software Applications and General Engine Development (Large Engine Control Module (LECM) used to control reciprocating engines (gas, diesel, or dual fuel) used in power generation, marine propulsion, locomotive and industrial engine, and process markets. The LECM provides a single, vehicle:mounted module that can be used to control all aspects of the engines operation.
Woodward E3 Engine and Emissions Control Systems and MOTOHAWK familiarity. Knowledge of Woodwards Graphical Application Programmer (GAP(tm)) software.
Relevant Experience required; no recent grads, no interns Must be able to walk in and be effective from day ONE
