Reinventing our library includes a renewed and deep commitment to assessment of library services to ensure user needs are at the center of our strategy and services. The newly created position of senior assessment specialist is an exciting opportunity for an experienced assessment professional or librarian to head assessment for our organization. Primary focus will be on design and development of strategies and methods to build systematic and sustainable assessment into the services we offer now and the ones we might provide in the future. This position will be part of the U-M Library Office of the Deans, and partner across the library to promote a culture of assessment.
Promoting a culture of assessment means the senior assessment specialist works closely with individuals, teams, programs, and initiatives, including partnering with service and technical leadership, consulting with diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility programs, supporting evolution of services, spaces and collections, and leading studies and projects. The senior assessment specialist will initiate new qualitative and quantitative activities for assessment as well as accelerate and build on existing assessment activities occurring throughout the U-M Library.
+ Lead the development of an overall assessment vision, strategy, and specific projects that support user-centered services and initiatives.
+ Contribute to library strategic planning and decision-making, using knowledge gained from assessment activities.
+ Provide consultation and related support for assessment goals and priorities, data collection, qualitative assessment, and quantitative assessment conducted by staff, departments, teams, and/or committees.
+ Coordinate the collection and management of data for planning, evaluating, and reporting purposes.
+ Create and share presentations and reports on assessment activities and results.
+ Lead library-wide assessment activities such as the Ithaka Study at to understand the value, quality, and impact of library resources and services for our campus.
+ Collaborate and coordinate with other assessment contacts across the U-M campus and the library profession to promote assessment strategy and advancement.
**Required Qualifications***
+ Master s degree in a related field and three or more years of experience leading or developing assessment strategy and implementation or equivalent combination of education and experience. For appointment as a librarian, an ALA-accredited at master's degree or equivalent combination of a relevant advanced degree and experience.
+ In-depth knowledge of and experience with assessment strategy, practices, program development, principles, or trends.
+ Demonstrated knowledge of qualitative and quantitative assessment methodologies and tools. Ability to learn and implement new technologies and applications.
+ Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in groups to achieve project milestones and results, including the ability to discuss and present data and trends.
+ Demonstrated ability to manage projects and resources effectively and set priorities in a collaborative and service-oriented culture.
+ Strong commitment to user-centered services with focus on diversity and inclusion principles. Commitment to apply and incorporate the differences, complexities, and opportunities that diversity brings to an organization.

This position receives 24 days of vacation a year and paid sick leave with provisions for extended benefits, as well as opportunities for professional development and travel. TIAA-CREF and Fidelity Investments retirement options available.
If the position is filled as a librarian, the appointment is anticipated at the ranks of associate, senior associate or librarian. If not hired as a librarian, the position will be filled as a Program Evaluation Specialist. Salary and rank dependent on the candidate's qualifications and experience. Librarian appointments carry with them increased expectations regarding professional development, professional engagement, research, and service, in keeping with the Library's process for librarian promotion and advancement at .
