Gift of Life Michigan, headquartered in Ann Arbor, is the state’s only federally designated organ and tissue recovery program, providing all services necessary for organ donation to occur in Michigan. We are a non-profit organization working 24 hours a day all over the state as a liaison between donors, families, hospitals and transplant centers.

The donation service area comprises more than 140 critical care hospitals and nine transplant centers with 23 transplant programs. Gift of Life’s state-of-the-art laboratory is CLIA-certified, FDA-registered, ASHI-accredited and OPTN/UNOS-approved to perform ABO, HLA typing and infectious disease (serology and NAT). The laboratory also supports the donor and recipient workups for a kidney/pancreas transplant program in Michigan.

Gift of Life Michigan is in Ann Arbor, home to the University of Michigan, known for its research programs and rich arts and cultural scene. Ann Arbor is 40 minutes from Detroit, which this year was labeled America’s Comeback City by Forbes Magazine. “The Motor City” also is the birthplace of Motown Records.

Position Description:

The primary responsibilities of the Histocompatibility & Infectious disease Technologist include:

Perform HLA typing, crossmatch, and infectious disease testing by EIA and NAT
Perform equipment maintenance, quality control of reagents, and other quality assurance and improvement duties as assigned

Minimum Work and Education Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or higher degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology or relevant fields from an accredited institution with current ASCP certification or registry eligible or
Current certification as Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) from ABHI preferred but not required
A minimum of 1 year of recent relevant clinical laboratory experience preferred but not required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential along with basic computer skills
