About Ross IT

The Computing Services Department provides the Michigan Ross community with a comprehensive suite of technologies, web-based business solutions, and support to help our shared instructional, research, administrative and service missions.


The Business Systems Analyst provides critical services to Ross IT and its clients, leading activities to maintain and improve the quality of data used by multiple software systems across Ross, and providing strict attention to detail to ensure system efficiency and productivity. This position primarily works with data used by the Ross School's Salesforce instance, but will also work with data used by other Ross systems. The position will report to the Director of Application Services and is a part of the Ross Information Technology department.


Data Integrity

* Under general supervision, work directly with units to research, define, modify, and document a system of policies, templates and practices to manually load externally generated data into Salesforce and other Ross systems.

* Run regular (weekly) Salesforce Demand Tools scenarios (and improve such scenarios) to merge duplicate contacts / accounts / opportunities.

* Run standard reports to find any Salesforce contacts without opportunities or other data architecture anomalies.

* Analyze why duplicate records were created and recommend how to prevent them in the future.

* Reach out to users to recommend best practices or correct issues with data entry.

* Assist with an annual review / cleanup of fields / objects within Salesforce.

Data Loading

* Manage batch loading / error monitoring for Informatica, Eventbrite and other automated batch integrations between Salesforce, GradLeaders, Flatbridge, and other Ross systems on a daily basis.

* Review data files before upload, and perform potential cleanup / standardization of fields in Excel files prior to upload to maintain data integrity. Manually upload data files as needed.

* Analyze technical / data feed issues that are causing or errors and work with Ross IT staff to correct or rerun batch tasks.

* Work with units to establish advance schedules for list loads, to help ensure timely availability of data.

Query and Report Generation

* Work directly with units and Ross IT staff to define, develop, and run custom queries to obtain specialized data, and to better manage day to day processes / respond to ad hoc requests.

* Scan reports and data extracts to visually check for anomalies and errors to validate

* Assist end-users and Ross IT in using and customizing Salesforce or other reports

General Duties

* Serve as the designated triage person for all Salesforce feature and support requests.

* Maintain SysAid records of Salesforce feature and support requests.

Training and Skill Development

* Develop and maintain expertise in data import and data quality tools, such as the Salesforce Data Import Wizard,, and Informatica.

* Develop and maintain knowledge of Ross data systems and data architecture.

Required Qualifications*

* Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

* Experience creating, modifying, and running queries in various systems.

* Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including formula and coding experience.

* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-stress environment; meet multiple deadlines; and work collegially and collaboratively in a team environment.

* Candidate must also have strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

* Contributes to a positive work community by approaching work with diversity, equity, and inclusion in mind; treats others with respect, dignity, and in a manner where individuals feel they belong; listens, values feedback, and learns from the perspectives of others.

* Strong communication skills are essential, including the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy and the ability to maintain.

Desired Qualifications*

* One to three years of experience with data integrity practices and reporting.

* Strong analytical skills including compiling and analyzing data.

* Experience with admissions processes, or University systems within higher education such as MPathways, MReports, and Business Objects.

* Background in sensitive data reporting, regarding FERPA and student records.

* Salesforce experience and/or certifications.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Requires the ability to travel to various locations to conduct work and deliver materials.

The person in this position routinely communicates with students about financial aid, programs, events, activities, etc.

May require work during early mornings, nights, and/or weekends.

May require on-call hours.
