The College of Engineering Center for Entrepreneurship is seeking an experienced, highly motivated individual who can lead its Entrepreneurs Leadership Program (ELP), TechLab Program, and global immersion treks at the University of Michigan.
The Assistant Director of Entrepreneurial Practice will be a key member of the Educational Programs team and will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and growth of the Entrepreneurs Leadership Program (ELP), TechLab Program, and global immersion treks. The person in this position will be responsible for project management, setting objectives, tracking performance metrics, as well as assessment and improvement of these programs.
:Build and maintain relationships with relevant partners, including UM
units/departments/centers, companies, and alumni.
:Work with CFE marketing to raise awareness of and drive participation in ELP and TechLab.
:Maintain relevant program metrics for purposes of assessment, improvement, and marketing.
:Mentor and advise students on their entrepreneurial ventures.
:Manage the Entrepreneurs Leadership Program, TechLab, and CFE Global Treks (responsibilities described in greater detail below).
Entrepreneurs Leadership Program (ELP)
ELP provides deep training and mentorship for a select cohort of students to develop the functional, managerial, and leadership skills required for success. A key experiential component of the ELP is the startup internship, wherein students work closely with entrepreneurs outside the University to gain the critical skills they need to become high performers, and support their post:graduate careers within entrepreneurial ventures and leading:edge industries in roles such as product managers, business development leaders, or founders. The person in this position will:
:Directly supervise the Entrepreneurial Leadership Program including recruitment, admissions, and student internships associated with ELP.
:Lead curricular development and teaching of the Entrepreneurs Leadership Program courses: 1) Fall term: 3:Credit Entrepreneurial Leadership Course that provides students essential skills in preparation for ELP internship; 2) Winter term: 3:Credit Entrepreneurial Action and Vision Course that prepares students for entrepreneurial career after ELP.
:Establish and maintain an environment of innovation, peer dialogue, active learning and excitement.
:Conduct site visits to ELP partners and intern hosts.
:Develop and lead co:curricular workshops and events for ELP.
TechLab at Mcity
TechLab provides emerging transportation technology startups direct access to University of Michigan experts and resources including Mcity, where the worlds leading researchers are driving the next generation of mobility. Students participating in the TechLab program enroll in the TechLab course and conduct an open:ended, rigorous project in partnership with a hosted startup, and gain experience in developing cutting edge technology at an early stage startup. The person in this position will:
:Directly supervise the TechLab program including company recruitment, student recruitment, admission, and curriculum development, associated with TechLab.
:Lead TechLab Independent Study Course.
:Develop and lead co:curricular workshops and events for TechLab.
Global Immersion Treks, Mentorship, and Outreach
The Global Immersion Treks provide exposure to the global network of U:M alumni leading entrepreneurial ventures. In addition, it provides a two:way opportunity for students to learn about innovation happening around the globe while alumni reconnect with the opportunities happening at U:M, Ann Arbor, SE Michigan, and the Midwest.
:Develop and lead co:curricular workshops and events for CFE educational programs (ELP, TechLab, TechArb etc.) e.g., leadership series.
:Oversee the organization of annual Startup Immersion Treks.
:Advise/mentor entrepreneurship students on campus.
