The School of Social Work at the University of Michigan has upto five faculty openings for the 2018-2019 academic year. Theseinclude: Tenure-Track Faculty Positions Up to three open-rank, tenure-track faculty positions with prioritygiven to candidates whose work emphasizes one or more of thefollowing areas: community organization; management andorganizations; social services innovation including socialenterprise; families, youth and children; child welfare; health andhealth disparities; evidence based interpersonal social workpractice; juvenile justice or criminal justice. For the Associateand Full Professor ranks, demonstrated achievement in teaching atboth the MSW and doctoral levels is highly desirable. Successfulcandidates will have an ambitious research agenda with a history ofsecuring grant funding and a record of publication, preferably inpeer-reviewed journals, focused on one of the areas listed above.For the Assistant Professor rank, evidence of a strong scholarlytrajectory is required. Teaching experience at the MSW level isdesirable. Successful candidates will have a defined researchagenda and some experience with proposal development andpublication focused on one of the areas listed above. The MSWdegree is preferred; a Ph.D. in social work or a related field isrequired. Clinical Faculty Position One clinical faculty position (untenured but open rank) withpriority given to candidates whose work is focused on macro socialwork practice including policy implementation and evaluationresearch methods and community organization. Clinical facultymembers will join the team of social work faculty in the area oftheir specialization to develop curriculum and new programming,engage in exemplary teaching, develop and engage with a network ofpractitioners in their area of specialization, and collaborate inthe identification and supervision of student field placements andrelated activities. The successful candidate will have a record ofpractice experience, as well as experience in graduate teaching andsupervision. While research experience is welcome, the primary focifor the clinical positions are teaching, student supervision, andeducational program development. Clinical faculty appointments arepossible at the 50% level of effort and greater. These arerenewable appointments of five-year terms. The MSW degree isrequired; a doctoral degree is preferred. Tenure-Track Faculty Position Jointly Sponsored with theInstitute for Social Research One open-rank tenure track faculty position jointly sponsored bythe School of Social Work (the tenure home) and the Institute forSocial Research. The Institute for Social Research is aninterdisciplinary, campus-wide and internationally recognizedinstitute whose mission is to plan and conduct rigorous socialscience research, to disseminate the findings of this research, andto train future generations of social scientists. Candidates forthis position should have deep grounding in one or more socialsciences; familiarity with and interest in social work; substantiveand methodological focuses that are relevant to social work andsocial sciences, including poverty, heath and behavioral healthincluding substance abuse prevention and intervention, juvenilejustice and criminal justice including post-incarceration reentry,family development, gerontology, demography, survey research, orquantitative methods; and a record of external support for theirresearch. The MSW degree is preferred; a Ph.D. in social work or asocial science is required. Review of applications will begin immediately andconsidered on a rolling basis.
