The University of Michigan Horace H. Rackham Graduate School invites applications for the senior administrative position of Assistant Dean. The Horace H. Rackham Graduate School is the home of graduate education at the University of Michigan. The Assistant Dean will participate as a key member of the Dean's senior leadership team. They will lead the implementation and ongoing work of the School's diversity, equity, & inclusion plan by working collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and other members of the Rackham community. The Assistant Dean will engage with Rackham students and graduate student organizations to improve the experience of all graduate students at the University of Michigan. The Assistant Dean will pursue faculty engagement and the development of academic programs for graduate students that support Rackham Graduate School's partnership with its graduate programs. Required qualifications include: an earned Ph.D. and 7 or more years of progressive experience in student affairs, preferably at the graduate level, as well as in the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in higher education. Values DEI as demonstrated through personal commitment to understanding its scholarship and to its incorporation into an organization's ecology. Exemplary interpersonal skills, characterized by the ability to work effectively with a range of constituents, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and University colleagues. Proven ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously. Exemplary oral and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare written reports, presentations, and professional communications. Experience with: working with graduate students and graduate student organizations; managing complex and emergent situations involving students, staff, faculty, and other constituents of a graduate community; interacting with faculty and graduate program leadership; and program evaluations and planning. High level of competence and accountability in providing service to others, including both students and faculty. Proven commitment to fostering student success, growth, and achievement. Excellent judgment, tact, discretion, and demonstrated high standards for professionalism.
