Position Summary:
A Distinguished Engineer has a strong record of creativity and innovation. This position is responsible for advancing engineering principles, theories, and concepts while being recognized as a HARMAN authority in advanced transducer technology research and development.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no direct reports, but mentoring and development of team engineers is required. A Distringuished Engineer will proactively coach technical talent on technical and career possibilities, and mentor engineers within the division on their respective technical field of expertise. A Distinguished Engineer is a talent ambassador who seeks new talent in the external market place and has an internal reputation as a technical mentor and guide.
Job Responsibilities:
:Be the technical subject expert and lead transducer development on assigned CoC Audio transducer projects. Be responsible and accountable for all transducer design activities within the group.
:Lead advanced speaker technology development activities.
:Ensure that all internal project milestones are met.
:Lead all transducer design related problem solving activities for assigned projects.
:Support meetings where technical expertise is needed.
:Provide technical support on acoustical performance, durability, and cost at design and feasibility reviews.
:Support new business opportunities.
:Generate concept and prototype transducer designs.
:Produce all relevant documentation such as Bill of Materials (BoM), component/subassembly/assembly drawings, simulation data, performance data, DFMEA/DRBFM, DVP and R, and all other documentation required to support the development process.
:Provide engineering cost estimates for transducer designs/concepts/components/tooling.
:Use Best Practices and Design Standards via the Lessons Learned process and the Knowledge Base.
:Specify and/or build transducer prototypes.
:Specify and/or perform electrical, mechanical, and acoustical measurements on transducers.
:Specify and/or perform environmental, reliability, and durability testing on transducers.
Basic Qualifications:
:PhD degree in Engineering or related field and 12 years of experience in corporate or academic research; alternatively, Master's Degree in above mentioned fields and 16 years of experience in research and development or Bachelor's Degree and 20 years' experience
:Company recognized expert in one or more technical areas
:Compelling contributions to a technology area through new technology developments and research
:Proven technical leadership
:Key influencer in new product or service development and demonstrated experience launching in collaboration with business or partner
:Proven expertise developing complex systems from architecture to implementation
:Demonstrated expertise with wired and wireless network protocols
:Demonstrated expertise in system architecture and design
:Demonstrated ability for debugging hardware and software, embedded and real time systems using traditional test equipment, e.g., oscilloscopes, logic analyzers
:Proven ability to lead diverse teams with little to no supervision
:Proven ability to mentor
