Job Description McKinley is looking for a full-time Residential Accountant to join our team at our Corporate office in the beautiful downtown Ann Arbor, MI! Residential Accountants are responsible for the full cycle accounting month end closing procedures. This means you’ll prepare accurate and timely financial data that impacts the GL. Here’s what you’ll do on a day to day basis: You will prepare and review monthly financial statements for apartment communities and prepare monthly analytical review of account variances in support of the monthly close process. You will prepare bank account reconciliations and resolve any issues around that. You will complete the monthly financial reporting packages, including the preparation and analysis of the balance sheet and income statement with budget variance narratives. You will review and create all journal entries, prepare and post complex adjusting and closing journal entries. You will keep and update work papers that substantiate monthly reporting as well as the annual financial audits. You will reconcile all other balance sheet accounts and maintain appropriate schedules and statements. You will ensure sub-ledgers and supporting schedules tie to the GL. You will review financial statements and all monthly reports, and tie all supporting schedules to the financial statements. You should understand the budget reporting requirements and will assist Operations in the preparation of the annual operating budget for the properties that are assigned to you. You will complete and review the monthly close and prepare the required financial reports for management and HUD. Of course, there are other projects and duties that could be assigned as well. This is a fairly entry level position. Ideally, we are looking for someone who was a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and has about 1-2 years’ work experience in residential accounting. You will regularly partner with Operations so you need to have excellent verbal and written communication skills. You have to be able to meet deadlines and work both in a team setting and individually. This job might be for you if: You have awesome problem solving skills and have proven analytical abilities. You’re organized, detail oriented and have the ability to multi-task on a regular basis. You have experience with HUD accounting and reporting. That’s a major plus!
